When Hopkins administrators first came up with the idea of an institute that would advance heart care to new levels, they knew they had an unusual storehouse of raw material to work with. Already in place at the head of the divisions of cardiology and cardiac surgery here were two of the nation's most respected heart specialists. Meanwhile, the director of the huge Department of Medicine was a cardiologist so prominent he'd served a term as president of the American Heart Association. And heading the Department of Surgery was a vascular surgeon whose research interests dovetailed perfectly with the group. Finally, newly arrived on campus was a top cardiology researcher from Texas who'd "come home" to Hopkins. Today, this five-person team makes up the leadership of the Johns Hopkins Heart Institute. Let us introduce you. |
