From hearing and balance disorders, to smell and taste disorders, to vocal cord disorders, otolaryngologists specialize in a wide range of ailments and conditions. Better known as "ear, nose and throat doctors" (ENTs), otolaryngologists also treat related structures of the head and neck including trauma to the face, cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery and nerves that control sight, smell and hearing.

The Department of Otolaryngology -- Head and Neck Surgery has been ranked #1 in the annual U.S. News & World Report "Best Hospitals" issue. One of the largest and most comprehensive departments in the nation diagnosing and treating ear, nose and throat disease, Otolaryngology -- Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins houses nine clinical divisions. Staff includes sub-specialists in areas such as endoscopic surgery, tracheostomy, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric otolaryngology, speech pathology, audiologists, swallowing therapists, dentists and oral surgeons who work together as a team to coordinate every component of medical and dental care.
