The cochlear implant program at Johns Hopkins has been providing cochlear implants to adults since 1987. In 1991 the program was expanded to include children. In September 1994, The Listening Center at Johns Hopkins was established to provide rehabilitation therapy and support services to families and related professionals. The Listening Center is committed to the following principles:

  • Early intervention is important for producing best results in deaf children;
  • Rehabilitation is critical for maximizing the potential of children receiving cochlear implants; and
  • Families, teachers and professionals need to work together to help children reach their full communication potential
