 Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

 A comprehensive array of clinical services is available to children and adolescents and their families in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) and the School of Medicine. These services are delivered by faculty members in child and adolescent psychiatry, clinical psychology, and speech and language pathology; child and adolescent psychiatry fellows; social workers and nurses.

OUTPATIENT SERVICES

 Specialty Clinics at the Children's Center
Each faculty member in the Division directs a clinic that reflects his/her area of clinical interest and expertise. The clinics are designed to meet the comprehensive treatment needs of children with various disorders or problems. These clinics provide ongoing consultation to other clinicians, second opinions, parent education and guidance, case management, medication management, and/or psychotherapy. Specific clinics include:
- Attention and Disruptive Disorders
- Tic and Anxiety Disorders
- Psychopharmacology
- Major Depressive Disorder & Bipolar Disorder
- Psychosocial Aspects of Congenital Anomalies
- Pervasive Developmental Disorders
- Psychological and Psychoeducational Testing

 Suburban Clinics
Clinics are planned at strategic sites throughout the metropolitan Baltimore area in coordination with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and other departments in the School of Medicine.
- Green Spring Station (opening TBA)
- Northwest Columbia Southwest (opening TBA)
- North Arundel Southeast (opening TBA)
- White Marsh Northeast (opening TBA)

 Residents' Continuity Clinic
Located in the Children's Center, this clinic is staffed by child and adolescent psychiatry fellows who are supervised by faculty members. The clinic focuses on long-term care of children and their families.

DAY/PARTIAL HOSPITALIZATION
INPATIENT

 Inpatient and Day Treatment Services at the Children's Center
Two intensive evaluation and treatment services are located in the Children's Center. These services are staffed by a multidisciplinary team of pediatric mental health professionals including: psychiatry, clinical psychology, nursing, social work, special education, speech and language therapy, child life (recreational therapy) and occupational therapy. Families who live outside of the Baltimore area can stay at the Children's House (for a nominal fee), which is conveniently located across the street from JHH.

  • A 15-bed Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Service is located on CMSC 3-East
  • A 6-patient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Day Treatment Program is located on Blalock 3


Other Clinical Services

Pediatric Consultation Services at the Children's Center
The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry also provides consultation (comprehensive evaluation, treatment recommendations, and referral suggestions) to all pediatric programs within the Children's Center. Services include:

  • Consultation to Pediatric Inpatient Services
  • Consultation to Pediatric Emergency Room

 Community-Based Services in East Baltimore
The Child and Adolescent Community Psychiatry Program provides comprehensive services to children and adolescents living in East Baltimore. Outpatient services are provided at the Johns Hopkins ChildrenÕs Mental Health Center located at 403 North Caroline Street on the grounds of Johns Hopkins Hospital. Home-based services are provided by the East Baltimore Mental Health Partnership (EBMHP) located at 1235 East Monument Street, 2 blocks from the ChildrenÕs Center. The EBMHP also coordinates on site services in 19 public schools in East Baltimore. Services include:

  • Crisis intervention and acute stabilization
  • Outpatient evaluation and treatment
  • School-based evaluation and treatment
  • After-school and summer school programs
  • Intensive case management
  • In-home services
  • Trauma exposure intervention

 Community-Based Services at the Hopkins Bayview Campus
Comprehensive services are also provided for children at the Hopkins Bayview Campus, which is three miles east of the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
